Poggio
Nativo is a medieval agricultural center (415 m. on the sea level) which was
built around a castle on top of an hill, in a strategic position along the
trail that linked into the Abbey of Farfa. The first traces of Poggio Nativo
(“Podium Donadei”) and its hamlet Monte Santa Maria date back to the XI
century. Between the XII and the XIV century the castle was under the
dominance of the Pope until it became a feud of the roman noble families,
Savelli first and then Borghese.A monastic complex is located just outside
the village. The origin of the , dedicated to Saint Paul, dates back to the
XIII century when it was founded by the Farfa Abbey. In the XV century the
complex was abandoned by the nuns and left in a state of disrepair until to
day. The surrounding area, rich in natural beauty and untouched by mass
tourism, offers the opportunity of discovering historical and archeological
sites. All around the hill, olive groves and small vineyards.Visit the
historical center with its narrow streets inside the old walls still today
conserved and the hamlet Monte Santa Maria well known for its cherry feast.
