Casperia,
a pedestrian, medieval village, still completely intact and contained within
the old walls, perched in a panoramic position on a hilltop. It belonged
to
the Farfa Abbey and in the fifteenth century passed into the possession of
the Roman families Savelli and Orsini. In the sixteenth century Casperia
returned to the Holy See. On the main square, the church of St. Annunziata
was built in 1609 by Girolamo Saraceni. At the top of the village is the old
church of St. Giovanni Battista and a tower restored in the seventeenth
century. At St. Maria, hamlet of Casperia three km. far, is the church and
monastery of St. Maria Legarano, built in 1166 on the ruins of a Roman
villa. At Caprignano, other hamlet of Casperia, there are the remains of a
medieval castle.
