related to the history of Stimigliano goes up again to the VI century and
they conducts to Galla, the daughter of Simmaco, adviser of Teodorico king
of the Goths, that built a basilic devoted to St. valentine in "Messa
Cronicle quae vulgo dicitur Septimiliana".
The indication "Septimiliana" makes to hypothesize today the presence of a
Gens Septimia, as owner of a Roman villa in the territory Stimigliano.
The villa and the consequent of the small center was invaded by the
Barbarians and the population was sheltered on a high hill, where they
built the "Castrum Stimiliani".The castrum passed partly to the monastery
of S.Andrea al flumine (X century) and in the following centuries to the
Abbey of Farfa, as it results by a papal bead of Leo IX in 1049. It had
been dominion of the Orsinis since 1368 to 1604 when, to the death of
Henry Orsini, Stimigliano returned under the direct government of the
Pope. In the following centuries the history of Stimigliano is identical
to the others cities and countries of central Italy; from the French
dominion at the times of Napoleon to the annexation of the kingdom of
Italy.
Until to the XIX century the communications and the transports with Rome
were insured sailing the course of the Tevere.
